Rapid electric car charger installed in Tiverton car park

A new rapid electric car charger has been installed in a car park in Tiverton.

Mid Devon District Council teamed up with Devon County Council and neighbouring districts as the DELETTI partnership, to attract competitive bids from electric vehicle (EV) operators.

Wenea won the contract to install and manage rapid chargers in car parks across the county, which will raise revenue for the company and the councils.

The charger on William Street is the first to be installed through the partnership and one of 18 public charge points in mid-Devon.

The district council said it is planning chargers in Crediton and Cullompton next.

Councillor Natasha Bradshaw said: “We hope mid-Devon’s growing network of charging bays boosts driver confidence that you’re never far from a recharge.

"We will install extra rapids in the next 12 months, followed by more public EV charging points in rural locations.”

Mid-Devon is also part of the next government-funded round of public charger installations, which will focus on more widespread, slow chargers serving neighbourhoods alongside the faster charge hubs across Devon, the council added.
